To all who came out to enjoy themselves this past weekend, we want to say thank you. This was without a doubt one of the greatest events NGHRC has ever put on. Beautiful weather, ample test grounds, skilled judges and enthusiastic dog/handler teams!
We especially want to offer congratulations to those club members who received a title on Sunday:
- Joe Overby & Hooch – Reached the 1,500 point plateau on Sunday; Hooch is now retired permanently.
- TJ Smith & Whiskey – Earned an HRCH Title! Whiskey is now off to Arkansas for duck season!
- Kyle Chambers & Magic – Earned an SHR Title!
- Brian Dyer & Ned – Earned an HRCH Title!

It’s not every day that a dog adds a new Hunting Retriever Champion (HRCH) title to their resume. Recently, Joe Overby of Candler Creek Retrievers was able to handle Brandon Wansley’s dog Bailey to achieve this new title. This is no small feat and one that should not go unrewarded. As a way of sending our congratulations, the club was in full “force” on May 21st for the training day. In typical NGHRC fashion, somebody got in the water. Guess who went swimming?? When all is said and done, we’re all proud of Brandon and send a big ol’ soppin’ wet dog lick on the nose to him!

The training day was held at the Wansley farm in Martin GA. While the heat was present, so too was a wonderful showing from folks from all over. With more than 50 people and countless more dogs, the day was a tremendous success. While the club’s trailer and all equipment were present, we quickly realized it was going to be enough to handle this large of a crew! Six new members joined the club with a number more promising to do so in the near future. What a tremendous boost of confidence for our club. It’s always good to know that more and more people are hearing about us and the word is getting out. With the onset of the summer sun and rising temperatures in North Georgia, we will take a bit of time off from the training circuit to let the dogs rest and survive the deadly heat. Please check back for more information on our fall hunt test, next training day and club meeting(s).
